Guarding Capitalism
This photo is one choice for our submission to the Fotki contest, "People in Uniform". This woman in uniform, circa 1995 is defending capitalism on the banks of Ohio river in Pittsburgh, her job of making sure that no one sets foot on the ship without a ticket is safe until communism arrives. Of course, communism is just beyond the horizon... (All who remember that Soviet era joke, must vote 10 at http://contests.fotki.com/contests/48/5154.html once the voting begins at the end of May!)

this is my first choice best of luck

I like this one more, the content of the other one is too distracted. Good luck!

I'd have to go with this one, not just for the uniform but the facial expression.

hmmm don't like the other picture... this one has a civil uniform... Fotki wants military.. something dignified...for the occasion. I am skipping this contest, so should you. :-)

Sorry -) My language was a bit harsh there. I am changing my original comment -) Didn't mean to offend anybody.

 MeduzaLithuania wrote: Sunday, May 15, 2005 - 7:54 PM

this one, but far away from 10... and what's up with all that nonsense about communism!?!?!?! give me a brake:))

EmmaUnited Kingdom wrote: Sunday, May 15, 2005 - 7:44 PM

It's the uniform.

Anyways I didn't read the sign

 Irina&MichaelUnited States wrote: Sunday, May 15, 2005 - 7:38 PM

The sign beside her says "No drinks or food allowed aboard". She just passes out tickets to some cruise boat - I guess guarding against the communist tourist sneaking in on the boat. How simbolic is that???? Anyway, that other picture is much more interesting!

EmmaUnited Kingdom wrote: Sunday, May 15, 2005 - 7:29 PM

I vote tbis one. The women being in it just seems symbolic in some way.

 EjmiLithuania wrote: Sunday, May 15, 2005 - 5:52 PM
